On Friday, Israel carried out air strikes on Hezbollah locations in Lebanon, targeting a training facility associated with the group’s elite Radwan Force, according to the Israeli defense forces.

The strikes focused on a location utilized for training agents, carrying out live-fire exercises, and orchestrating assaults on Israeli military personnel and civilians, as stated by the IDF.

Israel targeted multiple Hezbollah arms storage facilities, infrastructure, and military structures that were being utilized to “support terrorist operations against IDF troops and the State of Israel,” according to the military.

Lebanese media stated that attacks were focused in the northeastern Hermel area. The number of casualties remained unclear at first.

The armed forces stated that the targets and Hezbollah’s training efforts breach agreements between Israel and Lebanon and represent a danger to Israel, noting that they will keep conducting operations to eliminate these threats.

In November 2024, Israel and Hezbollah reached a truce after over a year of border clashes that started when Hezbollah carried out strikes following the Hamas attack on Israel on 7 October 2023.

The truce demanded that both parties cease fighting, with Lebanon tasked with stopping armed groups from launching attacks on Israel and Israel pledged to stop aggressive military actions.

The Lebanese military was assigned the responsibility of disarming Hezbollah in southern Lebanon. Hezbollah has refused to surrender its arms.

Nevertheless, Israel has carried out almost daily attacks throughout Lebanon since the ceasefire was established, claiming the aim is to strike Hezbollah fighters and facilities in order to stop the group from restoring its military strength.

The United Nations stated that over 330 individuals have lost their lives in Israeli actions since the truce was established.

The Lebanese government is facing demands to disarm Hezbollah, as Israeli authorities have cautioned about potential new military actions if the group remains intact.

The Radwan Force serves as Hezbollah’s top-tier special forces group, created with support from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

The group, believed to consist of approximately 2,500 combatants, acquired substantial combat experience throughout the Syrian conflict and is responsible for organizing operations that cross the border into northern Israel, such as possible infiltration and capture of Israeli land in the Galilee area.

Hezbollah has acted as Iran’s main proxy since its establishment in 1982, with Tehran offering the organization approximately $700 million to $1 billion each year (€600m to €850m), as well as arms, instruction, and political backing via the IRGC, based on recent US government reports.

Israel carried out an airstrike in the southern suburbs of Beirut on 23 November, resulting in the death of Haytham Ali Tabatabai, the head of Hezbollah’s military operations. This marked the highest-ranking commander lost since the truce was established a year prior.
