December 26, 2025 (EL GENEINA) – According to local authorities and residents, at least 17 individuals lost their lives, with several more sustaining injuries on Friday due to drone attacks that hit at least two sites in El Geneina, the capital of West Darfur state.

The city has remained under the authority of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) since November 2023. The organization has been widely criticized for alleged war crimes and ethnic cleansing directed at the Masalit people in the area. El Geneina, located near the border with Chad, has experienced multiple airstrikes from the Sudanese military.

A civilian administration linked to the RSF in West Darfur stated in a report that at least 17 individuals were killed in attacks carried out by military drones.

As per the statement, the initial strike targeted a water station in the Ardamata region, resulting in the deaths of seven individuals, among them women and children. The authorities referred to the event as a “direct assault on a critical service facility used by thousands of civilians.”

A second attack targeted a civilian vehicle in the Kirik region, which was carrying a patient and her relatives to El Geneina hospital. According to the statement, ten individuals, all from the same family, were killed in the incident.

The civilian authorities criticized the attack on non-combatants and facilities, dismissing the rationale for bombings targeting so-called “social incubators” or logistical hubs.

The declaration labeled the attacks as a breach of international humanitarian law and called on global human rights groups to record the event and ensure those involved are brought to justice.
