TEHRAN – In an interview released on Saturday, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian claimed that the United States, Israel, and Europe are conducting a “total war” against his nation.

“In my view, we are engaged in a full-scale war with the United States, Israel, and Europe. They aim to bring our nation to its breaking point,” Pezeshkian stated on the official website of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, half a year after Israel and the US carried out attacks on Iran.

France, the United Kingdom, and Germany supported the reinstatement of UN sanctions against Iran in September, linked to its nuclear activities.

“This conflict is worse than the one initiated by Iraq against us. Upon further examination, it is significantly more complicated and challenging,” he remarked, alluding to the 1980-88 war between the neighboring nations that resulted in hundreds of thousands of deaths.

The United States and its partners allege that Iran is attempting to obtain nuclear arms, a statement that Tehran has consistently refuted.

Israel and Iran, long-time adversaries, were involved in a 12-day conflict in June following an extraordinary Israeli strike on Iranian military and nuclear facilities, along with civilian locations.

The protests led to over 1,000 injuries, as reported by Iranian officials.

The United States subsequently became involved in the operation, launching airstrikes on three nuclear facilities.

Washington’s participation led to the interruption of talks that started in April with Tehran regarding its nuclear program.

After coming back to the White House in January, US President Donald Trump has brought back his so-called “maximum pressure” approach towards Iran, which was started during his initial term.

This has involved further penalties aimed at economically weakening the nation and reducing its oil income from international sales.
