Following a series of targeted air strikes by U.S. forces against multiple terrorist sites in Sokoto State, Mr. Shaibu visited the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar.
The Army Chief, Waidi Shaibu, visited the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar, on Friday after US forces carried out multiple missile attacks on various terrorist sites in Sokoto State.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Nigerian Army mentioned that Mr. Shaibu’s visit was a key part of the military’s continuous initiatives to enhance ties between the military and civilians in the area.
“The visit underscores the Nigerian Army’s renewed dedication to enhancing civil-military ties and promoting cooperation with traditional institutions to advance national unity, peace, and security,” the statement mentioned.
The military announcement highlighted that the interaction aimed to foster regional stability and build a stronger collaborative connection with local leaders.
“During the visit, General Shaibu emphasized the Nigerian Army’s commitment to collaborating with local leaders to foster stability and harmony throughout the nation,” the statement noted.
The ruler of Sokoto praised the Nigerian Army for its consistent sacrifices and continuous actions to protect people and assets.
He expressed prayers for the armed forces’ ongoing success in carrying out their constitutional duties and called for constant alertness in response to changing security threats.
The United States stated that the missile attacks conducted on Thursday were carried out in collaboration with Nigerian officials. The Nigerian administration mentioned that it supplied intelligence for the strikes, which President Bola Tinubu also endorsed.
In a statement following the missile attacks, the Sokoto State Government voiced its firm backing for global military alliances in addressing the increasing surge of insurgent activities in the North-west.
Sokoto State is open to any partnership between Nigeria and key international partners focused on addressing the threat of terrorism and transnational crimes within the State,” the statement said. “Current operations are designed to enhance the State’s security and safeguard the lives and assets of its residents.
In a synchronized anti-terrorism mission, the US carried out multiple missile attacks aimed at ISIS fighters insideSokoto State.
As reported by a US military source who communicated with The New York Times, more than a dozen Tomahawk cruise missiles were launched from a ship located in the Gulf of Guinea, effectively striking two distinct ISIS bases.
The US Africa Command (AFRICOM) stated that “several” militants were killed according to initial evaluations.
The Sokoto administration also stated on Friday that no civilian deaths have been reported as a result of the attack.
