Members of the Joint Task Force Faruruwa have freed a kidnapped individual after carrying out a successful security mission near the Kano–Katsina border during the early hours of Sunday.
The Army Public Relations Officer from the 3 Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Kano, Maj. Zubair Babatunde, informed the News Agency of Nigeria that the operation was initiated after receiving a reliable report around 1:00 am regarding the movement of armed bandits from the Daurawa and Kira regions of Katsina State towards the Kano area.
As per his statement, forces based at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Yankwada quickly deployed a combat patrol to the edge of the Kano–Katsina border to stop the alleged outlaws.
Upon reaching Ungwan Dogo/Ungwan Tudu, the soldiers encountered the armed robbers and fought them in a brutal firefight.
“The brigands were overwhelmed and compelled to retreat in chaos toward the Matazu Local Government Area in Katsina State,” he stated.
Babatunde mentioned that during the incident, a kidnapped individual named Rabiu Alhaji Halilu, who is 38 years old, was freed by the military.
He stated that Halilu suffered a gunshot injury to his leg while being held captive and was quickly taken to the JTF Faruruwa Medical Centre, where he is now undergoing care.
Among the items found during the operation were three motorcycles left behind by the escaping criminals, along with an unknown quantity of livestock thought to have been stolen.
He mentioned that military personnel have stayed at a heightened state of readiness and increased their patrols in the region to stop additional illegal actions and maintain ongoing safety in border areas.
