The head of the Nigerian Army, Lieutenant General Wahdi Shaibu, stated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has increased financial support for essential military activities, enhancing the army’s ability to address security challenges across the country.
Shaibu mentioned this in Maiduguri on Saturday while delivering his Christmas 2025 and New Year 2026 goodwill message to officers, soldiers, civilian staff, and their families, expressing appreciation for the President’s leadership and support as the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.
He mentioned that the increased financial support has boosted operational efficiency, modernized training facilities, allowed for the purchase of advanced equipment, and enhanced benefits programs for staff and their families.
The head of the Army also revealed that the President gave approval for a rise in the Army’s recruitment target, a step he claimed would strengthen personnel numbers and improve combat preparedness.
Shaibu honored the officers and soldiers stationed in different areas who are unable to celebrate the holiday with their loved ones, calling their dedication essential to the country’s security.
He pledged to staff that the Army would maintain its focus on professionalism, combat preparedness, well-being, and discipline, while increasing initiatives to tackle new challenges and strengthen operational achievements in the coming year.
The head of the Theatre Command, Operation Hadin Kai, Major General Abdulsalami Abubakar, stated that recent actions by the Chief of Army Staff have enhanced operational capabilities and improved soldiers’ motivation in the North-East, ensuring that the forces continue to maintain the pace of their operations.
He observed that the availability of key assets and platforms acted as force multipliers, while increased air operations in recent months produced substantial outcomes, including the elimination of terrorists and the weakening of their supply chains.
Abubakar mentioned that the actions taken resulted in clear achievements within the Joint Operations Area, revealing that from May 2025 until now, the Joint Task Force North-East eliminated 438 JAS and ISWAP militants, retrieved 254 various weapons, freed 366 civilians from terrorist areas, and captured 300 Starlink communication devices.
He mentioned that new Forward Operating Bases were set up in Duji and Kekeno to strengthen achievements and increase the military’s area of operation.
