Members of the Joint Task Force (JTF) Faruruwa have freed a kidnapped individual after carrying out an effective security operation along the Kano-Katsina border during the early hours of Sunday.

The Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Army, 3 Brigade Kano, Maj. Zubair Babatunde shared this information with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano.

He mentioned that the operation was based on a reliable report received around 1:00 a.m. regarding the movement of armed gangsters from the Daurawa and Kira regions of Katsina State towards the Kano area.

As per his statement, the soldiers based at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Yankwada quickly deployed a combat patrol to the edge of the Kano/Katsina border to stop the suspected thieves.

Upon reaching Ungwan Dogo/Ungwan Tudu, the soldiers encountered the armed robbers and fought them in a violent firefight.

“The brigands were overwhelmed and compelled to retreat in chaos toward the Matazu Local Government Area in Katsina State,” he stated.

He mentioned that during the incident, a kidnapped individual named Rabiu Halilu, who is 38 years old, was freed by the military forces.

He stated that Halilu suffered a bullet injury to his leg while being held captive and was quickly taken to the JTF Faruruwa Medical Centre, where he is now undergoing care.

He mentioned that among the items found during the operation were three motorcycles left behind by the escaping thieves, along with an unknown quantity of cattle thought to have been stolen.

He mentioned that military personnel are maintaining a heightened state of readiness and have increased their patrols to stop additional unlawful acts in the region, as well as to maintain ongoing safety in border areas.
