December 27, 2025 (ED DAMAZIN) – A senior government representative stated on Saturday that the Sudanese military is getting ready to counter a scheduled assault by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and its partners on the settlements of Kurmuk and Geissan in the Blue Nile area, which is being initiated from Ethiopian land.

In June of last year, the military succeeded in driving the RSF and its allies from regions in the Blue Nile area of southern Sudan. After conducting military attacks, these groups retreated to territories adjacent to Ethiopia and South Sudan.

The official stated to Sudan Tribune, ‘We confirm the army’s preparedness to face hostile activities in the upcoming weeks targeting the Kurmuk and Geissan regions, which are coming from Ethiopia.’

He claimed that Ethiopia has allowed RSF fighters and allied forces to train in four border areas located within the Benishangul-Gumuz region, which is adjacent to the Blue Nile region.

The official stated that training camps—hosting the RSF, the SPLM-N (Joseph Touka group), troops aligned with Obaid Abu Shotal, and fighters from Ethiopia and South Sudan—have been stocked with military gear in readiness for the attack.

Obaid Abu Shotal, a community leader, became part of the RSF at the beginning of the conflict in April 2023 and was involved in combat operations in Khartoum and the Blue Nile. At the same time, the SPLM-N is allied with the RSF following the establishment of the “Ta’asis” coalition. Joseph Touka, the deputy chairman of the SPLM-N, is responsible for the Blue Nile front.

A representative confirmed that the Sudanese government has been keeping track of Abu Shotal, Joseph Touka, and RSF leaders in Assosa, the capital of the Benishangul-Gumuz region.

He also stated that the government identified the shipment of large military equipment from the UAE at two airfields in Benishangul, which is anticipated to be utilized in the assault on Kurmuk and Geissan.

On Thursday, demonstrators shared satellite images indicating the completion of two new airplane hangars at Assosa Airport, alongside continued building activities, such as surface enhancements and infrastructure improvements.

On December 8, Al Jazeera Net reported a government official stating that Sudan is preparing for the start of a new military front following Ethiopia’s approval of training facilities for the RSF and associated foreign mercenaries.

An official stated that Ethiopian authorities maintain military cooperation with the RSF through supportive regional nations. This arrangement reportedly involves supply routes and the development of landing strips, with combat vehicles, artillery systems, and jamming equipment already being transported through Assosa.

Nevertheless, on December 9, the same website cited an Ethiopian source who refuted the presence of RSF camps within Ethiopian territory. The source expressed disappointment at these claims, asserting that they are intended to create division between Sudan and Ethiopia.

A senior Ethiopian official claimed the reports are unfounded, highlighting that lines of communication are still active between the two nations across different levels. The source emphasized that Ethiopia “will not tolerate any hostile actions against any neighboring country” and reiterated Addis Ababa’s commitment to respecting Sudan’s unity and independence.
