An angry mother is seeking explanations after her young child returned from daycare with sunburn four times within a month.

Ashlee Jade described the difficult experience her three-year-old daughter went through and the “disappointing” reaction from the unidentified daycare.

She attempted to handle the issue following the first incident last month by asking for a daily record of when sunscreen was applied to her daughter.

Ashlee said she took the issue to the daycare’s headquarters after her daughter suffered another sunburn earlier this month.

“They largely avoided the issue and informed me that their center complies with sun safety standards,” she said.

The following day, the young girl suffered a third sunburn, and Ashlee posted an image of her daughter’s face, highlighting the redness on her cheeks.

“I’m completely dissatisfied with the reply,” Ashlee remarked.

I told them, ‘Something has to change because it’s not functioning properly.’

In the end, she’s three years old. Yes, she puts on her own sunscreen, but she isn’t covering her face and arms, which are the areas that get burned, and I would rather an adult apply it. It didn’t go over well.

Ashlee shared that her daughter had been injured for the fourth time on her face and arms, which she called “the worst thing I’ve ever witnessed.”

“It’s devastating; I truly can’t get over the fact that they let this occur but didn’t have the courage to call and inform me about what has taken place,” she said angrily.

Four times in a month, with three occurring in a single week. I truly can’t believe this has happened once more.

The most tragic part is that my young daughter has been crying all day, in discomfort. They simply don’t show any concern.

She also stated that she never encountered the daily sunscreen records that the center’s director had pledged following the initial incident.

Her experience drew hundreds of reactions from online users, with many expressing surprise at the nursery.

“Which planet allows a three-year-old to apply their own sunscreen? An adult should definitely be doing it,” a woman wrote.

Another added: “Truly shocking! Ensure that if they are using sunscreen, it is applied sufficiently in advance before going outdoors.”

Individuals employed in the child care industry expressed their views, stating it was unacceptable.

“As an educator, this is incredible! I don’t take the sun lightly; every exposed area of skin gets generously covered with sunscreen and is regularly checked and re-applied,” one person remarked.

Others questioned if the child experienced an allergic response to sunscreen or if the product was part of a recent recall.

Ashlee has now taken her daughter out of the daycare.

She submitted an official grievance to the department following additional attempts to contact the daycare’s headquarters, which went unanswered.

“I can’t go back to a place where my child isn’t secure, or where I don’t believe she is safe,” she said in the comments.

She is also examining the sunscreens applied to her daughter.

Every child care service must implement a sun protection policy according to the National Quality Standard set by the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority.

The Cancer Council NSW website says, ‘Babies and young children have more delicate skin, which makes them particularly at risk from UV harm.’

Studies indicate that early life is a vital stage where sunlight exposure can greatly raise the chances of acquiring skin cancer in the future.
