Nepal, January 3 — The ninth installment of the NVA Men’s and Women’s Volleyball Championship, which started on December 26, wraps up on Saturday as the final teams compete for the championship.
Nepal Sports Club and Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) reached the final in the men’s section following their success in the semifinals held at the Dasharath Stadium’s Covered Hall on Friday.
Help Nepal overcame Nepal Police Club (NPC) with three straight sets (25-21, 25-23, and 25-22). Meanwhile, the other semifinal encounter between TAC and Rukum Paschim Training Centre was a closely contested match.
TAC secured the first set (20-25), but Rukum Paschim made a comeback in the second (25-23). Army took the third set (25-15), while Rukum Paschim won the fourth (24-26). The final set was won by the Army (15-12).
On the other hand, the Army women’s team was unable to replicate the same success in their semifinal match. TAC’s opportunity to reach the final in both categories was blocked by NPC’s women’s team, whose men’s squad had been beaten by Help Nepal in the other category.
NPC won the first set comfortably (25-12) against TAC in the women’s category’s opening semifinal on Friday. Army had a strong response in the second set, securing a 31-29 victory. Nevertheless, in the third and fourth sets, NPC, who remained undefeated during the group stage, regained control with scores of 25-14 and 25-18 respectively.
Nevertheless, the NPC’s aspiration to claim the title will not be straightforward, as they face the New Diamond Youth Sports Club in the final. New Diamond also reached the final without a loss, having beaten APF in three straight sets (25-17, 25-20, and 25-7).
Mentored by the renowned Kumar Rai and strengthened by the comeback of outside-hitter Pratibha Mali, New Diamond is expected to be the top contenders for the championship. Nevertheless, NPC remains a strong competitor with spikers such as Usha Bhandari, making the women’s final an exciting contest to follow.
In a similar fashion, the last match in the men’s category will be just as exciting as the two teams that have remained undefeated meet head-to-head. Support Nepal and TAC have reached the final without dropping a single game throughout the competition.
Four teams that have not lost a game are set to compete in the finals on Saturday, but only two will maintain their perfect record and claim the championship in their respective divisions.
The concluding game in the women’s division is scheduled to start at 1 p.m., following the matches involving the third and fourth placed teams in the women’s category—APF versus TAC at 9 a.m.—and the men’s division—NPC against Rukum Paschim at 11 a.m. Help Nepal versus TAC will be the final match of the competition, set to begin at 3:30 p.m.
