The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco will tonight move into a new phase as 16 teams compete for the eight places in the quarter-finals.

The group stage met expectations as top players such as Riyad Mahrez and Ademola Lookman delivered impressive performances, hinting at the excitement ahead in the later rounds.

In contrast to the previous two AFCON tournaments, there were no significant upsets, with all the major teams advancing to the Round of 16 (except for Gabon, whose national team has since been disbanded).

Opta’s advanced computer system forecasts the winner of AFCON 2025

As it was at the beginning of the competition, Opta has once more favored the host nation Morocco to claim their second-ever championship, with a 22.82% probability.

The Atlas Lions performed well during the group stage, finishing first in Group A with seven points. They will take on Tanzania, who advanced as one of the top teams from the losers, and if they win, they will face either South Africa or Cameroon in the quarterfinals.

Algeria is currently in second place with a 13.64% probability. The Desert Foxes are among the two teams that have maintained an unbeaten record up to now. Having won the 2019 tournament, they were knocked out during the group stage in later competitions, but have rediscovered their form under Bosnian manager Vladimir Petković. If they defeat DR Congo, they will face either Nigeria or Mozambique in the quarterfinals.

Notably, only one country from Morocco or Algeria will make it to the final since they are positioned on the same half of the bracket.

The third and fourth entries on Opta’s ranking are Senegal and Egypt, each having a 13.62% and 13.26% probability, respectively. These two teams might face each other in the semi-finals provided they win their Round of 16 and quarter-final games.

AFCON 2025 Knockout Stage Betting Forecasts
