TOKYO – Aoyama Gakuin University maintained its advantage from the previous day’s initial stage to claim victory in the Tokyo-Hakone university road relay for the third consecutive year on Saturday.

The group from a university in central Tokyo outpaced their competitors on the 109.6-kilometer return leg, which stretched from the mountainous hot spring town of Hakone in Kanagawa Prefecture to Otemachi in the capital, securing their ninth victory and making them the first institution to achieve a “three-peat” on two occasions.

The 102nd version of the renowned race took place this year, a competition that originally began in 1920.
