CAF has chosen a team of Cameroonian referees to officiate the AFCON 2025 Round of 16 match between Nigeria’s Super Eagles and Mozambique’s Mambas.

The much-anticipated bout is scheduled for January 5 at the Complexe Sportif de Fès in Morocco.

The match’s central referee is Abdou Abdel Mefire, a 29-year-old official who is the youngest umpire participating in the current competition.

Although he is young, Mefire has already demonstrated maturity and self-assurance on the major stage, having recently managed the intense group-stage encounter between host nations Morocco and Mali.

His display in the game, which featured crucial calls examined via VAR, drew commendation for composure and precision.

Accompanying him are two seasoned assistant referees. Elvis Guy Noupue will act as the first assistant referee. Noupue has extensive experience, having refereed at the FIFA World Cup, and is considered one of Cameroon’s most dependable officials.

The second assistant referee is Carine Atezambong Fomo, a well-known female official who has gained significant experience in high-level CAF tournaments, including important continental finals.

Combining fresh enthusiasm with years of experience, the Cameroonian referee squad is set to maintain fairness, control, and professionalism in a high-stakes and crucial elimination game between Nigeria and Mozambique.
