Leader of North Korea, Kim Jong-un, visited a factory producing tactical guided weapons and directed an increase in manufacturing. It is believed to be the site where the North Korean version of the “Spike missile” is produced, which was initially used in combat during the Kursk battlefield in Ukraine in 2024.
The Korean Central News Agency stated on the 4th that Chairman Kim toured a key military factory the day before to check the production of tactical guided weapons and review multi-purpose precision-guided weapons.
Kim said, “The military technological capabilities and effectiveness of our outstanding tactical guided weapon system are so impressive that they could potentially replace artillery systems in the future,” and added, “From the first half of this year onward, key units will be systematically supplied with this weapon system.”
He additionally stated, “In order to fulfill the equipment requirements of units planned by the Ministry of National Defense and the General Staff Department, it is crucial to increase the existing production capacity by approximately 2.5 times.”
Images published by North Korean media depict a manufacturing site for a weapon similar to Israel’s precision-guided Spike missile, believed to be the North Korean equivalent. The system is reportedly named “Bulsae-4.” With a range between 10 and 25 kilometers, it is thought to allow accurate attacks through electro-optical guidance technology and is commonly employed as an anti-tank weapon.
The Korea Defense and Security Forum stated, “There are also versions of the vehicle mounted on armored vehicles, with images showing it being installed on the Choi Hyun-class,” and mentioned, “Improvements in performance have been achieved based on combat experience in the Ukrainian battlefield along with Russian technical assistance, and further exports to Russia and continued support are anticipated.”
Since the end of last year, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has been providing on-site oversight in military areas, such as the construction site of a nuclear-powered submarine designed to carry nuclear weapons and a facility producing ultra-large multiple rocket launchers. He also watched test launches of a new high-altitude long-range air defense missile and a long-range strategic cruise missile exercise, along with other military operations.
North Korea is anticipated to introduce a unique approach to combining nuclear and conventional military strategies at the 9th Workers’ Party Congress, which is set to begin early this year, and highlight the modernization of its armed forces for this objective.
