Leader of the People Power Party, Jang Dong-hyeok, stated on the 4th, “It seems there was a supporter who enabled Representative Kang Sun-woo to confidently put forward Kim Kyung, a member of the Seoul City Council, as the sole candidate,” and emphasized, “This is why a special prosecutor is required.”

Representative Jang mentioned on his Facebook post that day, “If you listen to the recorded dialogue between Representatives Kim Byung-kee and Kang Sun-woo, this matter should have been resolved quietly with Representative Kang Sun-woo returning 100 million Korean won to Kim Kyung.”

He added, “However, the situation developed in the exact opposite manner,” and mentioned, “The following day, a single candidate nomination letter was delivered to Kim Kyung.” Speaking about the background of Representative Kang’s confident single candidate nomination, he stated, “We are unaware of who the supporter is. However, it is probable that this person holds a higher position than Kim Byung-kee.”

During a press briefing on the 2nd, Representative Jang also mentioned, “The meeting minutes clearly show that Representative Kang Sun-woo participated in the nomination committee meeting and strongly pushed for Council Member Kim Kyung to be the sole candidate. This constitutes an instance of trading a nomination letter for money.”

Representative Jang added, “The actions of former floor leader Kim Byung-kee are even more severe. It is reported that his wife directly asked for and obtained the funds. There is also a startling account suggesting that when they handed over 10 million South Korean won, it was returned with the assertion that it was not enough.”

He said, “Although a petition outlining these corrupt activities was submitted, the then-party leader President Lee Jae-myung paid no attention to it,” and mentioned, “President Lee Jae-myung is also a definite person under investigation.”
