The United States is making an effort to take control of an oil tanker connected to Venezuela following a prolonged chase across the Atlantic that lasted over two weeks.
The confiscation, which might increase hostilities with Russia, occurred after the vessel, previously called Bella1, managed to bypass a U.S. maritime ‘blockade’ targeting sanctioned tankers and refused U.S. Coast Guard attempts to board it.
Officials, who requested to remain unnamed, stated that the operation is being conducted by the Coast Guard and the U.S. military.
They mentioned that Russian military ships were near the area during the operation, including a Russian submarine.
The vessel, currently called the Marinera and flagged under Russia, is the most recent tanker to be targeted by the U.S. Coast Guard since the beginning of the U.S. President’s term.Donald TrumpThe pressure campaign directed at Venezuela.
In addition, the U.S. Coast Guard has also stopped another tanker linked to Venezuela in Latin American waters, according to U.S. officials who spoke with Reuters, as the U.S. maintains a maritime ‘blockade’ on sanctioned ships from Venezuela.
