Vice President Kashim Shettima has emphasized the dedication of the President Bola Tinubu government to enhance and support the Nigerian Armed Forces in their mission to address the security issues confronting the nation.

The Deputy Leader made this statement on Friday during a special Jumma’a Prayer conducted at the National Mosque in Abuja, marking the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day.

Shettima stated that the Federal Government is determined to offer the military the required assistance to ensure Nigeria’s territorial unity and defend the lives and assets of its people.

He also honored the officers and soldiers of the Armed Forces who died while performing their duties, recognizing their contributions to the nation’s peace and unity.

“The soldiers who lost their lives gave the ultimate sacrifice in protection of the nation and will remain recognized for their courage and dedication,” he stated.

During the prayer time, Shettima prayed for the rest of the souls of departed military members and requested God to provide strength and solace to their loved ones.

He also requested spiritual safeguarding and strength for the officers and soldiers of the Armed Forces as they face the country’s security issues.

As stated by the Vice President, continued backing for the armed forces is essential to the administration’s larger initiatives aimed at addressing instability and promoting national cohesion and progress.

PUNCH Online states that January 15 is commemorated each year by the Federal Government to recognize the Nigerian Armed Forces.

The military forces have recently changed the name of the annual event on January 15 from “Armed Forces Remembrance Day” to “Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day” in order to highlight its two-fold aim of honoring active service members and commemorating those who lost their lives.
