Aircraft from the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), functioning as part of the joint task force for Operation Hadin Kai, have effectively targeted terrorist positions in Abbajiri within the Timbuktu Triangle of Lake Chad, paving the path for a military advance by ground forces.

Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, head of Public Relations and Information, stated that the attacks came after a synchronized aerial disruption mission on January 8, 2026.

In response to actionable intelligence from multiple sources indicating the presence of terrorists, their structures, and hidden logistics facilities in the region, NAF air forces carried out coordinated surveillance and precise strikes against the identified targets.

The mission was intentionally planned to weaken terrorist abilities, cut off their safe havens, and prepare the battlefield for ground troops, following closely the set rules of engagement and ensuring the safety of non-combatants.

Speaking about the operation, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, mentioned that the mission’s success demonstrates the Nigerian Air Force’s determination to control the airspace in assistance with combined operations.

“This mission highlights our steadfast dedication to providing accurate and impactful air support for ground troops. We will keep preventing terrorists from moving freely, finding refuge, and accessing supplies in any location they attempt to hide,” the CAS stated.

The terrorist groups that were identified were firmly confronted and eliminated, preventing the terrorists from operating freely, while a subsequent operation disabled armed individuals seen moving toward the area.

Further progress by infantry into the region demonstrated the value of the air attacks and supported the achievement of the combined air-ground mission.

Reiterating the NAF’s position, Air Marshal Aneke highlighted that aerial missions would continue to be vigorous and based on intelligence.

Our activities are meticulously organized and based on intelligence, maximizing impact on enemy forces while protecting innocent people.

He further stated that the Nigerian Air Force will maintain pressure until terrorist groups are entirely destroyed.

The mission highlights the Nigerian Air Force’s assertive approach, accurate use of aerial capabilities, and strong dedication to continuous joint efforts.

It also emphasizes the Service’s essential function in helping ground forces sustain their advance and achieve impactful results against terrorist groups that endanger lives, assets, and Nigeria’s national security.
