A rocket was found in the Zugurma region within the Mashegu Local Government Area of Niger state.
A confidential informant revealed to Daily Trust that the gadget was discovered by certain residents, who then notified the security authorities for action.
The source indicated the device was thought to be a Tomahawk missile warhead, likely part of the missiles launched by the United States.

Upon being contacted, the spokesperson for the Niger State Police Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, verified the finding for our reporter. He stated, ‘On January 5th, 2026, around 2pm, a report was received from the Zugurma area in Mashegu LGA indicating that some residents in the community spotted an object believed to be a missile in the bush.’
Police officers from Ibbi Div arrived at the location, set up a perimeter around the missile, and secured it. Meanwhile, the EOD-CBRN unit from the Command was sent to the site for investigation, evaluation, and retrieval.
