In December 2025, companies around the world experienced continuous cyber threats, with the average number of cyber-attacks per organization per week rising to 2,027, marking a 1% rise from the prior month and a 9% increase compared to December 2024.

As per the December 2025 Global Cyber Attack Statistics from Check Point Research, the threat intelligence division of Check Point Software Technologies.

As per the data, Latin America faced the most significant impact, with businesses encountering an average of 3,065 cyber-attacks each week, marking a 26% rise compared to the previous year.

On the other hand, Africa experienced a reduction in attacks, with Nigeria (4,622 attacks per week) and Angola (4,002 attacks per week) recording the highest number of incidents on the continent.

The report’s conclusions emphasize the changing cyber threat environment, where ransomware and data risks fueled by GenAI present major difficulties for businesses across the globe.

Ransomware attacks increased by 60% compared to the previous year, with 945 reported cases in December. Qilin was the most active ransomware group, accounting for 18% of publicly revealed attacks.

“Ransomware is growing through organized operations, while uncontrolled use of Generative AI is leading to extensive data leaks at the corporate level,” stated Omer Dembinsky, a data research manager at Check Point Research.

The report highlighted that the education sector faced the highest number of cyberattacks worldwide, at 4,349 per week; next was the government sector (2,666 attacks per week); and then associations and non-profit organizations (2,509 attacks per week).

The increasing use of GenAI technologies has brought about new cybersecurity threats, as one out of every 27 GenAI prompts presents a significant danger of confidential information being exposed.

Experts caution that businesses need to focus on proactive security measures, real-time AI threat analysis, and robust oversight of AI technologies to address these dangers.

Hendrik de Bruin, head of security consulting at Check Point Software, stated: “Enhancing resistance to ransomware, utilizing AI-driven protection measures, and establishing firm GenAI policies will be essential for minimizing cyber threats in the coming year.”
