If there’s one thing Apple does really badly, that’s Apple Intelligence, as they have labeled their version of AI. This has been true for a while, even though the tech company promoted its 2024 iPhone 16s range as designed for AI, but Apple is about to shift focus toGoogle Gemini to fill the gap.

In reality, Apple had previously been utilizing OpenAI’sChatGPTfor the bulk of its artificial intelligence operations.

ChatGPTwas combined with Siri (the Apple voice assistant) towards the end of 2024, as Apple subtly recognized it was unable to handle the task effectively on its own.

Events have evolved since that time, however, asGoogle Geminihas surpassed ChatGPT in terms of popularity and possibly in functionality as well.

Apple and Google’s $1 Billion Investment in AI: Enhancing Next-Generation Apple Intelligence Capabilities

The sole application of AI by Apple within its operating systems is Image Playground, which is poorly designed and not suitable for any serious use.

Apple and Google issued a shared statement regarding the agreement earlier this week on X: “Apple and Google have established a long-term partnership where the next generation of Apple Foundation Models will be built upon Google’s Gemini models and cloud infrastructure. These models will support upcoming Apple Intelligence features, such as a more tailored version of Siri set to launch this year.”

Following a thorough assessment, Apple concluded that Google’s AI technology offers the strongest base for Apple Foundation Models and is enthusiastic about the groundbreaking new features it will introduce to Apple users. Apple Intelligence will still operate on Apple devices and Private Cloud Compute, while upholding Apple’s top-tier privacy protocols.

The agreement is reportedly valued at $1 billion annually, with Apple making the payment to Google.
