Transport and Logistics Secretary Mable Chan states that the new Port Community System simplifies transport data, enhancing visibility for users.
A digital logistics platform created by the Hong Kong government, providing real-time monitoring of cargo, has been introduced, with approximately 2,300 businesses signed up to the system.
The Minister of Transport and Logistics, Mable Chan, stated on Friday that the updated Port Community System will simplify transportation data and enhance visibility for users.
The system combines data from the sea, land, and air, utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) and blockchain technology to offer real-time cargo tracking, which Chan described as “critical” for the logistics sector.

During the launch, Chan mentioned that the port system is designed to enhance Hong Kong’s position as a global financial, trade, and shipping hub via digital transformation.
This is an outstanding outcome from the joint efforts of the government and the industry,” Chan stated. “The actions taken by the government must be feasible for the industry… and should address the industry’s requirements while planning comprehensively around them.
The logistics officer stated that the bureau will keep collaborating with the Hong Kong Monetary Authority’s “Project CargoX” — a system that consolidates logistics information — and supply cargo and trade data from the port network, comparable to the airport’s cargo platform.
The information might enable small and medium-sized businesses to obtain funding faster, she mentioned.
The bureau would also collaborate with Hong Kong customs to digitize the cargo detention notification procedure, offering industry participants “quicker and more transparent information,” thereby enhancing the efficiency of customs clearance.
The Port Community System is included in the government’s plan for developing intelligent ports, aiming to boost competitiveness and ensure Hong Kong remains a key transshipment center in the region.
It seeks to link appropriate entities within the local logistics supply chain, while integrating with global ports and commercial shipping data systems.
The system’s initial prototype was launched during an industry test in 2023. A total of HK$210 million (US$26.9 million) in funding for the system was approved by the Legislative Council’s Finance Committee last March.
