January 14, 2026 (KADUGLI) – On Wednesday, the Sudanese military reported that it successfully defended a key location in South Kordofan state against an assault by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), asserting that they caused significant damage to both personnel and equipment.

Recent weeks have seen increased military actions by the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) and the RSF against the cities of Kadugli and Dilling. The rising tensions have sparked concerns about a large-scale land attack, following the two factions’ success in cutting off the cities from each other by capturing key locations along the national highway.

The office of the military spokesperson released a statement indicating that armed forces and their allies eliminated units of the RSF in the Al-Kuwaik region close to Kadugli after “conclusive battles.” The statement reported that several RSF members were killed or injured, along with a large number of combat vehicles being destroyed.

The armed forces stated it is determined to continue its operations until the nation is free from the paramilitary organization. Social media sites backing the military shared videos on Wednesday, reportedly depicting the destruction of combat vehicles and the elimination of fighters from both the SPLM-N and the RSF.

Residents in Kadugli are encountering significant difficulties in finding refuge because of a blockade placed on the city by the SPLM-N, which has allegedly violated the rights of people trying to escape towards the east.

Numerous locals are compelled to move towards Dilling, the second-largest city in South Kordofan, prior to trying to get to El Obeid via areas controlled by the RSF. The trip continues to be highly dangerous, with regular accounts of violence, theft, and unlawful arrest.
