A Ukrainian robot equipped with a heavy machine gun resisted multiple Russian assaults on the eastern front for 45 days, with no soldiers present at the location.

Russian forces found themselves trapped by continuous fire, thinking they were confronting several Ukrainian soldiers. Despite the protection of fog and poor weather conditions, they failed to advance.

In truth, the opposition was caused by one autonomous ground vehicle that was launched byUkraine‘s Third Army Corps.

The DevDroid TW 12.7 robot is about the size of a ride-on lawnmower but is equipped with a .50-calibre M2 Browning machine gun.

It can be controlled from as far as 15 miles away or maneuver through rough landscapes usingartificial intelligence.

The commander stated that the machine protected positions which typically would need as many as six soldiers, enabling Ukrainian forces to avoid danger.

Although Russian troops exerted constant pressure and tried to use fog, rain, and snow to move in small units, all attacks were defeated.

“The enemy carried out constant attacks on the front-line positions,” stated Mykola ‘Makar’ Zinkevych, commander of the NC-13 Strike Company.

The NC-13 Strike Unit is part of the Third Army Corps, focusing on unmanned ground vehicles, also known as UGVs.

Right until the final moment, the adversary failed to realize that a remote-controlled ground vehicle equipped with a combat module was stationed at the location.

The unmanned aircraft temporarily departed its position every two days for servicing and rearming, carried out by a team located approximately 2.4 miles behind the frontline.

Each meeting lasted approximately four hours and involved maintaining the weapons, replenishing bullets, and charging the drone’s battery.

The DevDroid TW 12.7 offers a maximum operational range of 15 miles and is mainly operated remotely through radio communication, enabling Ukrainian troops to manage it from a secure location.

Besides manual operation, the drone features artificial intelligence that allows it to determine its own path across the combat zone.

Footage of the drone in operation depicts it traversing difficult landscapes and launching several rapid-fire shots at Russian positions.

The achievement highlights the rising significance of robot-based combat in Ukraine, as unmanned machines are progressively taking over hazardous frontline tasks from human soldiers.

Commander Zinkevych stated that the NC-13 Strike Company, established in September 2025, has been focusing this year on the ‘maximum engagement’ and expanded use of UGVs in both defensive and offensive missions.

Additional drone models have recently received approval for deployment at the front lines, including two units fitted with grenade launchers.

The need for these systems is significant,” he stated. “Robots do not bleed.

It followed in March last year when Ukraine dismantled a Russian front-line position without any troops being present on the ground, thanks to a fully automated attack.

An assault on a Russian site located north of the contested Ukrainian city of Kharkiv in eastern Ukraine involved the country’s 13th National Guard Brigade Khartiya deploying approximately 50 unmanned aerial vehicles.

The five-hour assault, thought to be unprecedented, resulted in multiple Russian fatalities and has prompted other Ukrainian groups to consider comparable operations.
