Members of the 6th Brigade of the Nigerian Army, part of Operation WHIRL STROKE in Sector 3, have prevented a kidnapping on the Wukari–Ikyior Road in Taraba State, freeing two individuals and causing the perpetrators to run away.

A statement released on Saturday via the Nigerian Army’s official X page mentioned that the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army stated the operation was initiated after a distress call indicated that criminals had obstructed the road and were assaulting civilians.

As per the report, “Soldiers from the 6th Brigade of the Nigerian Army / Sector 3, Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have effectively prevented a kidnapping and robbery case on 16 January 2026 on the Wukari–Ikyior Road.”

It mentioned, “In response to a distress call where criminals had obstructed the road and were assaulting civilians, forces stationed at FOB Wukari arrived quickly and effectively at the location.”

The military stated that upon arrival, the suspects ran away.

The statement mentioned that upon arriving, the suspects ran into the nearby bushes when they saw the soldiers, leaving their victims behind and escaping on their motorcycle.

The declaration listed the saved individuals as Mr. Terso Kerso, aged 48, and Mr. Udongu Terbo, 42, both hailing from Ikyior Community within the Wukari Local Government Area.

It also mentioned that, “The individuals, who were not conscious when they were rescued, were promptly taken to the Federal University Teaching Hospital in Wukari for immediate medical care.”

The military revealed that forces have since enhanced safety measures in the region.

“After the incident, military forces have increased strong patrols and monitoring in the surrounding region to prevent additional crimes and provide comfort to locals and drivers regarding ongoing security efforts,” the statement noted.

Honoring the soldiers for their behavior, the Commander of the 6th Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 OPWS, Brigadier General Kingsley Uwa, commended their reaction.

He mentioned that their “quick reaction and expertise helped avoid potential loss of life.”

Uwa also emphasized “the Nigerian Army’s determination to continue active operations throughout the area of responsibility.”

He requested that locals work together with law enforcement, appealing to the public “to keep offering prompt and reliable details to security authorities in aid of current safety initiatives.”

PUNCH Online also stated that soldiers from the Nigerian Army, as part of Operation Whirl Stroke, detained two alleged arms smugglers in Taraba State during a joint, intelligence-driven operation.
