Members of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) have once more shown strength, discipline, and exceptional military skill by successfully stopping organized terrorist assaults in various areas of Adamawa and Borno States, while causing significant damage to terrorists as they retreated during subsequent operations.
As per a statement issued by the Acting Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force (North East) Operation Hadin Kai, Lieutenant SA Atokolo.
On the early morning of 16 January 2026, militants tried to seize a patrol post in Sabon Gari, located within the Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State, under Sector 4 OPHK. Vigilant forces quickly confronted the assailants, with assistance from units based in Gulak and the Battalion Quick Reaction Force. The attackers were effectively stopped without any harm to our personnel or equipment, leading them to withdraw from the assault. The surrounding region was later searched and scanned for homemade explosives and traps to guarantee the safety of both civilians and military personnel.
On the same day, in a related incident, militants carried out a major, multi-pronged assault on Forward Operating Base (FOB) Azir in Borno State. The assailants first tried to break through a section of the defensive line but encountered strong and continuous fire from brave soldiers, aided by the Air Component and other Nigerian Army air assets. Following an extended battle that lasted more than an hour, the terrorists were firmly defeated and compelled to retreat.
During the conflict, terrorists’ Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) attacks damaged troop transport vehicles and the CCTV control room, which suffered partial destruction from the fire. Nevertheless, the troops kept a strong grip on the situation. A number of terrorist weapons and supplies were seized, including a 60mm mortar tube, mortar shells, homemade explosives, heavy machine gun bullets, and hundreds of 7.62mm NATO rounds.
Importantly, this involvement extended beyond the FOB. Continuous Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) systems promptly monitored the fleeing militants, allowing the Air Component of OPHK to conduct subsequent operations along recognized escape paths. The Nigerian Air Force’s accurate strikes led to the elimination of more militants, significantly weakening the group’s combat capability and spirit. Data obtained from the analysis verified that the terrorists experienced significant losses.
The sacrifices made by the personnel highlight the overall dedication of the troops in safeguarding lives. The OPHK forces remain steadfast and determined in their mission to prevent terrorists from operating freely, to dismantle their networks, and to ensure the security of the Northeast region. Operations will continue until all threats are eradicated.
