The Syrian military declared that it has gained control of Deir Hafer, a settlement formerly held by Kurdish forces, situated to the east of Aleppo.

The Syrian military stated on Saturday that it has gained control of Deir Hafer, a town situated east of Aleppo.

The statement was made the following day after the US-supported, Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) decided to pull out from the region.

The military declared via state television that it has achieved “complete military control” over Deir Hafer.

In the meantime, journalists from news organizations present on the scene observed soldiers moving into the town.

What did SDF say?

On Friday evening, following government forces’ assault on SDF positions in Deir Hafer, Mazloum Abdi, the leader of the Kurdish-aligned fighters, stated on X that his faction would pull back from disputed regions in northern Syria.

Abdi stated that the SDF would begin advancing east of the Euphrates River at 7:00 a.m. local time on Saturday.

This month, violent confrontations occurred between government forces and the SDF in Aleppo.

The fighting ended with the removal of Kurdish fighters from three areaswhich had been captured by state troops.
