…calls on citizens to back security forces

The leader of the 12th Brigade, Nigerian Army, Brig. – Gen. Kasim Sidi has pledgedKogi Stateendured military involvement in maintaining peace and security, and called on them to back security forces, as collaboration is essential for addressing instability efficiently.

He provided the guarantee on Saturday during the Nigerian Army West African Social Activities (WASA) 2025 event held at Chari Maigumeri Barracks, Lokoja.

The leader characterized WASA as “a unifying platform” that gathers officers, troops, families, and friends to honor identity, culture, and common accomplishments.

He mentioned that the event highlighted the Nigerian Army’s variety and togetherness among different ethnic and religious groups.

Sidi commended the officers and troops for their commitment and expertise, emphasizing effective missions against brigands and kidnappers in Kogi throughout 2025.

He expressed gratitude to Governor Ahmed Ododo and the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, for their guidance and assistance in supporting the army’s well-being.

The Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Ododo praised the military for upholding the WASA legacy, calling it “an essential means for unity and fellowship.”

Led by state security advisor Jerry Omodara, the governor expressed continued backing for the Nigerian Army and other security organizations.

Mr. Ododo commended the 12 Brigade for ensuring tranquility in Kogi and encouraged the staff to stay concentrated and steadfast in their constitutional responsibilities.

He mentioned that the brigade achieved “considerable success” via recent decontamination efforts throughout the state.

He pledged that the Kogi administration would remain committed to backing security forces in safeguarding the well-being of citizens.

The gathering honored exceptional individuals, among them those stationed in different areas of Kogi State.

The governor also honored the spouses of martyred heroes, allocating N9 million to nine recipients from the unit.

WASA 2025 included vibrant cultural exhibitions, performances, and gift presentations for honored guests.

Various ethnic communities, such as the Hausa, Igbo, Igala, Ebira, Nupe, Fulani, Okun, Langtang, and Zuru, took part in the festivities.

Honors were given to exceptional military personnel who stood out in different areas throughout 2025.

The event also included a tug-of-war contest, with the women from the barracks winning overall.
