The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced its Best XI for the recently completed 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), featuring three players from the Super Eagles: Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, and Calvin Bassey.

The list was published after the tournament concluded on January 18, 2026, with Senegal named champions after defeating host country Morocco 1-0 in extra time, with Pape Gueye scoring the winning goal in the fourth minute of added time.

Nigeria concluded the tournament with a strong performance, securing the bronze trophy by overcoming Egypt 4-2 in a penalty shootout during the third-place match held in Casablanca.

The CAF’s Best XI, released on its official X account, was structured in a 4-3-3 setup, including athletes from only three nations — Senegal, Morocco, and Nigeria.

Osimhen, who played in six games for the Super Eagles, netted four goals as Nigeria finished in third position.

Lookman stood out with the most goal-related contributions during the tournament, scoring three goals and providing four assists, which secured his return to CAF’s Team of the Tournament following his first-time inclusion in AFCON 2023.

Bassey concluded Nigeria’s participation with a strong defensive performance during the tournament.

The Fulham defender participated in all the minutes for the Super Eagles but was absent from the bronze-medal game because of a ban, contributing to Nigeria’s three clean sheets.

Senegal, the AFCON champions, had four players in the Best XI, featuring Player of the Tournament Sadio Mane, Idris Gana Gueye, match-winning striker Pape Gueye, and defender Moussa Niakhite.
