Alex Toth
AFC Bournemouth have finalized the acquisition of promising Hungarian midfielder Alex Toth from Ferencváros, with the transfer valued at £10.4 million, as the Premier League team keeps enhancing its roster during the January transfer window.
A 20-year-old player has signed a five-and-a-half-year deal with the Cherries, with the contract also featuring potential earnings of £2.6 million based on performance incentives and a 10 per cent sell-on clause for the Hungarian champions.
Toth drew significant attention throughout Europe, with Benfica, Galatasaray, and Lazio all reportedly keeping a close eye on his status before Bournemouth took decisive action to sign him.
Following the transfer, the defensive midfielder shared his excitement about becoming part of the south coast team.
When I found out AFC Bournemouth were the first to show interest in me, I felt excited and delighted because this is a strong club in the Premier League, the top league globally and the most competitive one,” Toth said. “The entire club, the whole system is excellent.
Toth travels to England with increasing global experience, having already secured nine appearances for Hungary. He has remained with clubs in his native country throughout his professional career, including a temporary stint at Soroksár during the 2023–24 campaign.
He made his senior debut with Ferencváros in December 2024 and has appeared 52 times for the league champions, netting four goals and accumulating significant experience in European competitions.
The head of football operations at Bournemouth, Tiago Pinto, is confident that the young midfielder is ready to take on the challenge.
“He originates from a club that is accustomed to competing at the top level in Hungary, and also participates in European competitions, so we are enthusiastic about the contributions he can make to Bournemouth as he keeps growing under the guidance of Andoni [Iraola],” Pinto mentioned.
