NORMAN Football Club is celebrating 16 years since its establishment in 2010, an achievement that signifies not just endurance, but a continuous dedication to leveraging football as a means for social progress and creating opportunities.

Established in the year South Africa hosted the FIFA World Cup, the club based in Colville and Floors was founded with a mission that went beyond just competing. Team manager and executive committee member Sydney Norman stated that the goal from the beginning was to address social issues through sports, while also keeping young players committed to their studies and personal development.

That ideology still influences the club’s framework in the present day. Norman Football Club engages with children as young as six years old and is currently part of the Sol Plaatje Development League. The club has teams for Under-11, Under-13, Under-15, and Under-17 players, along with a female team, focusing significantly on developing talent from the foundational stages.

As per Norman, collaborating with young boys and girls during these crucial developmental years has always been a personal aspiration, emphasizing not just the enhancement of soccer abilities but also the cultivation of discipline, self-assurance, and leadership.

Sixteen years later, the club is starting to witness tangible signs of that long-term plan coming to fruition.

Included among those highlighted in the anniversary reflections is Leonay Kock, who started her football career at Norman Football Club when she was eight years old. She is currently in her second year at the SAFA Girls High Performance Centre in Pretoria, a step the club has acknowledged as a recognition of her effort, perseverance, and commitment.

Jemoniva Kock took a comparable route, beginning his career at the club before moving on to Magesi, where he now plays in the DStv Development Soccer League in Gauteng.

These achievements, according to the club, highlight the significance of continuous local development and strengthen its dedication to nurturing more athletes who can excel at advanced and top-tier levels of the sport.

In the future, Norman Football Club is welcoming young players aged six to 16 from nearby regions such as Colville, Floors, Squarehill Park, and Homestead. Concurrently, the club is reaching out to partners and possible sponsors for help with uniforms, gear, and soccer shoes, emphasizing that any contribution will aid in enhancing its development initiatives.

Looking back on 16 years of involvement within the community, the club’s message is evident: substantial advancement in football, just as in life, begins at an early stage and is developed gradually over time.

In order to aid its continuous development initiatives, Norman Football Club has also shown willingness to collaborate with stakeholders who are prepared to provide assistance with equipment, uniforms, and football shoes.
