Khartoum, 23 January 2026 (SUNA) – Al-Hilal achieved a crucial draw against South Africa’s Sundowns on their home turf, as both teams concluded their encounter with a 2-2 scoreline on Friday night, during the third matchday of Group C in the CAF Champions League. This outcome allowed Al-Hilal to accumulate five points, placing them at the summit of their group.

Abdel Raouf scored the opening goal for Al-Hilal in the 15th minute of the first half, after receiving an accurate pass from Jean Claude, controlling the ball with his right foot, and then taking a strong left-footed shot that found its way into Sundowns’ net. Sundowns leveled the score in the 22nd minute of the same half thanks to Brazilian player Salis. Al-Hilal also had to make a substitution when defender Erng was injured, leading to Senegalese defender Diouf entering the game as a replacement.

In the second half, Sundowns took shots from outside the penalty area because of the challenge in penetrating the solid defensive line arranged by Al-Hilal’s coach Reghecampf. Their attempts succeeded with a second goal from Mokoena in the 64th minute.

Al-Hilal, nevertheless, did not accept defeat. Abdel Raouf netted his second goal, with assistance from Malian midfielder Koulibaly, resulting in a vital equalizer for the Sudanese side. Later in the game, Al-Hilal faced a challenge when striker Flomo was sent off, yet the team managed to maintain the draw until the end of the match.

The two teams are set to face each other once more on January 30th in the fourth round at Amahoro Stadium in Rwanda, which is Al-Hilal’s official home ground for this tournament.
