Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Faisal Karim Kundi, introduced the trophy for the Celebrity Cricket League during an event at the Governor House on Thursday, officially launching the league within the province.
The gathering was graced by league organizer Dr. Hamza Jamshed, President Abaseen Yousafzai, Director of Sports at Islamia College Peshawar Muhammad Ali Hoti, team captains, athletes, youth representatives, poets, and artists from different parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The Governor also handed out shields to the league’s sponsors and awarded cricket kits to the team captains.
Speaking to the audience, Governor Kundi referred to the Celebrity Cricket League—which includes performers, media personnel, and young people—as a beneficial effort designed to showcase a more favorable perception of the province. He expressed approval of the league’s debut and praised the sponsors for their backing of sports and productive community endeavors.
The Governor pledged complete backing from his office for the smooth operation of the league, emphasizing that the Governor House would keep working with organizations striving to enhance Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s reputation. He mentioned that youth involvement and women’s empowerment have been his main concerns since taking office, adding that the province has the nation’s biggest young population.
He mentioned that athletes from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are demonstrating their skills at national and international levels, earning recognition for Pakistan. Highlighting the importance of collaborative efforts, he stated that opportunities and ongoing support should be given to youth to ensure peace, growth, and prosperity in the province.
Governor Kundi also reaffirmed his determination to bring back Peshawar’s historical reputation as a city known for its flowers and tranquility.
Previously, Dr Hamza Jamshed expressed gratitude to the Governor for unveiling the trophy and for pledging institutional backing for the league. During the event, Muhammad Ali Hoti handed over the official league cricket bat to the Governor.
