Numerous Pakistani cricketers are said to have faced significant financial damage following their involvement in a major investment scam, with overall losses amounting to billions of rupees. According to reports, eight active national team members were reportedly defrauded of approximately Rs880 million, while a former international player lost nearly Rs900 million.
The fraud was reportedly committed by a businessman who escaped the country following the receipt of large amounts from the players. The cricketers were encouraged to invest upon seeing the participation of a former national team captain, while certain players gave their money directly to the suspect.
During the early stage, the scammer sent back large sums as ‘returns,’ which motivated additional investments. He then disappeared abruptly, taking the funds with him. While some participants were able to get back a small part of their initial investments, all payments reportedly ceased entirely around two months ago.
It is thought that the accused resides in the United States and is reported to have had personal relationships with multiple players. Victims state that his phone is now off, and every attempt to reach him has been unsuccessful.
Although there have been significant losses, no official complaints have been submitted so far, and the issue has not been formally addressed by the Pakistan Cricket Board. Nevertheless, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi is said to have promised the affected players full support and assistance.
