The head of the Pakistan Football Federation, Syed Mohsen Gilani, convened a top-tier meeting with U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Natalie A. Baker, marking an important step in enhancing collaboration via football and showcasing Pakistan’s favorable image internationally.
At the meeting, President Gilani presented the PFF’s updated vision under the present leadership and discussed strategies to collaborate closely with the US Embassy in sectors where sports, especially football, can act as a link between countries. He highlighted that football has the ability to not only nurture athletes but also foster unity, involve young people, and enhance Pakistan’s positive global image.
At the meeting, President Gilani outlined a vision in which the PFF and the US Embassy collaborate to enhance Pakistan’s global image. He informed the Ambassador about the strong backing the federation has received from the Prime Minister’s Office and the Ministry of Sports, especially concerning community-based programs.
Building upon these initiatives, Mr. Gilani stated: ‘Our partnership with the Prime Minister’s Office goes beyond sports; it is a committed effort to uplift the youth of Pakistan. By integrating our internal processes with international benchmarks, we are nurturing a generation capable of showcasing the genuine, lively essence of our country on the global arena.’
Ambassador Ms. Baker praised the swift institutional advancements made under Mr. Gilani’s direction during the last six months, highlighting the noticeable increase in fan interest and governmental support. The talks concluded with a shared commitment to focus on three key areas of growth: the development of women’s football, elite youth initiatives, and a significant marketing campaign for the FIFA World Cup 2026, which will be co-hosted by the United States.
Considering the worldwide importance of the tournament, President Gilani said: ‘Pakistan is completely dedicated to backing the United States in its pursuit of a successful World Cup. This initiative presents a valuable chance to display a favorable image of Pakistan through our mutual love for the sport, and we aim to be an essential partner in honoring this international event.’ In addition to the World Cup efforts, the PFF President highlighted that the federation views women’s football as a vital part of its modernization plan. He thanked the Pakistani government for offering the required ‘administrative support’ that has allowed these major achievements to be reached within a very short period.
As the gathering ended, both leaders emphasized that this collaboration goes beyond the field, acting as a significant means for cultural interaction and sustained organizational management, ensuring that Pakistani football does not revert to previous stagnations.
