The assistant coach of Bandari FC, Razak Siwa, has issued a challenge ahead of Saturday’s match against Kariobangi Sharks at Mbaraki Stadium, insisting on securing maximum points as they aim to gain momentum in their bid for a first SportPesa League championship.
The dockers are positioned in 10th place with 23 points, 10 points behind Gor Mahia, the team at the top.
The visitors, Kariobangi Sharks, are going through a difficult season and currently sit at the bottom of the standings with only 13 points.
Essentially, Bandari enter the match with confidence, having maintained an unbroken five-game streak that has stabilized their season.
That sequence has involved them securing consecutive draws against Gor Mahia (1-1) and Posta Rangers (0-0) before finding their rhythm with three straight victories over Mathare United (1-0), Kakamega Homeboyz (2-1) and Tusker (2-1).
Siwa swiftly emphasized the significance of the match, seeing it as a platform for a crucial sequence of games that could propel Bandari back into the championship race.
“At this moment, it’s only 10 points that keep us apart from the top. That’s equivalent to three games, so our primary attention is on giving our best in the next three matches,” Siwa stated.
Our goal is to reach the summit. We must concentrate on our upcoming games, which are against Sharks, Police, and Shabana. These are the matches that are on our minds right now. We need to secure strong points from these games to stay in contention with the league leaders.
The atmosphere in the camp is extremely positive, especially following last weekend’s impressive win on the road against Tusker, which strengthened their reputation.
“The atmosphere in the camp is excellent, particularly following their victory over Tusker on the road,” Siwa mentioned.
The battle for starting positions has also become more fierce, as the coach looks forward to the challenging selection process before the Sharks game.
“Each athlete is striving hard to earn a chance to appear in the match. The rivalry within the team is extremely intense right now,” he further mentioned.
However, sharks enter the tie following a four-game losing streak.
They have managed draws against Sofapaka (0-0) and Posta Rangers (1-1), but suffered significant losses to Gor Mahia (4-1) and Kakamega Homeboyz (2-0).
The match on Saturday is expected to be closely contested, particularly following the first-leg encounter between the teams which finished in a dull goalless draw.
Nevertheless, Bandari will gain assurance from their strong performance at home.
This season, they have suffered only two home losses, including a 3-1 defeat by Nairobi United and a close 1-0 loss to APS Bomet.
The dockers have further bolstered their squad during the transfer period, signing defender Herrit Mungai and Cameroonian defensive midfielder Bertrand Konfor.
“The incoming players will experience the atmosphere of the pitch during the match against Sharks in front of the local fans,” he stated.
The Bandari strategist concluded his motivational speech, encouraging fans to fill Mbaraki and serve as the legendary 12th player.
“We hope our supporters come in great numbers. They are the 12th player, and their encouragement is essential for us,” Siwa stated. We remain hopeful that, given our performance this season, they will come to see an exciting game. We won’t disappoint them.
