The sibling of the viral Olympic breakdancer Raygun has acknowledged that he made a mistake while participating in a cryptocurrency investment scam that defrauded investors of over $180,000.

Brendan Gunn served as the director of the financial services firm Mormarkets when he was handed two bank checks issued byCommonwealth Bankreaching $181,000 in March 2020.

The money was transferred by three victim investors to be converted into digital currency, but it was actually directed into Mormarkets’ accounts, as stated in the agreed facts of his legal case.

Individuals were drawn into the financial scheme primarily through online investments that were reportedly promoted by famous personalities.

Gunn is not claimed to have had any awareness of the marketing efforts, or the statements made by so-called account managers, who are said to have ceased communication with victims following the transfer of money.

The document outlining mutual agreements stated that the 42-year-old was responsible for setting up and managing bank accounts for the company to handle incoming and outgoing funds.

However, he faced issues when his bank accounts were frequently frozen and closed due to worries regarding fraudulent behavior.

As soon as the banks realize we are a cryptocurrency broker, they will close the accounts,” Gunn wrote in an email to a colleague. “I attempted to open accounts with more than 25 banks, but my mistake was explaining what our actual business involved.

In February 2020, the financial expert informed his coworkers that over $1.6 million was stored in accounts that had been frozen by the Commonwealth Bank.

On Tuesday, he appeared before Sydney’s Downing Centre Local Court to admit guilt for handling over $100,000 in suspected illegal funds.

The case will stay under the jurisdiction of the Local Court, indicating that Gunn could receive a maximum sentence of one year in prison, a fine of $12,600, or both.

The resident of Queensland is set to appear in court on February 10 and is anticipated to receive a sentence this year.

His sibling Rachael Gunn, known by the stage name Raygun, competed for Australia in breakdancing at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The then-26-year-old quickly gained recognition after participating in the competition with unusual actions like imitating a kangaroo and moving on the floor like a snake.

She received no points for her three performances at the Games, yet she emerged as a cult hero globally, with numerous individuals dressing as the Olympic icon for Halloween in subsequent years.

She was later seen having dinner with celebrities such as Boy George and Richard Branson,and was praised by Adele during one of the musician’s performances.
