Authorities in Eumseong County, located in North Chungcheong Province, have initiated an inquiry following numerous complaints about a man in his 30s who is accused of charging excessive prices to intoxicated patrons at his business.
The Eumseong Police Station in North Chungcheong Province announced on the 27th that it has filed charges against Mr. A, in his 30s, without holding him in custody, for alleged fraud and extortion.
Mr. A is being charged with charging customers excessively who became unconscious at his venue on several occasions from August to December last year.
The police were informed by multiple victims, one of whom is said to have paid up to 22 million South Korean won in supposed excessive charges.
On the evening of the 23rd, law enforcement conducted a search at Mr. A’s entertainment establishment. During the operation, they collected video surveillance material, drinks available for sale, and narcotics containing unspecified components.
The authorities have asked the National Forensic Service to examine the confiscated drugs and are reviewing data from mobile phones and additional documents.
Mr. A reportedly refuted the claims during the inquiry, stating, “The customers submitted false reports as they were unwilling to pay for the alcohol.”
A law enforcement representative said, “We are carrying out a detailed investigation since there are five complaints and the sums in question are significant. Nevertheless, this is a preliminary phase, and we must examine the findings before reaching any conclusions.”
