The Department of Homeland Security has rejected the claim thatICEPolice were observed ‘assessing the number of bullet injuries’ on deceased nurse Alex Pretti following his multiple shootings by immigration officers.
A 37-year-old Pretti had been recording officers and demonstrating against immigration enforcement operations inMinneapoliswhen he was shot and reportedly refused emergency treatment.
A physician who observed the scene stated in an official statement: ‘As I got closer, I saw the victim lying on his side and wasencircled by a number of ICE officers. I was puzzled about why the victim was lying on his side, as this is not typical procedure when a victim has been shot.
Examining for a pulse and performing CPR is typical procedure. Rather than carrying out either of these actions, the ICE agents seemed to be tallying the number of gunshot wounds he had.
I inquired of the ICE officers whether the victim had a heartbeat, and they responded that they were unaware.
The Department of Homeland Security has now rejected these assertions.
A representative stated, “Two Border Patrol officers, who are nationally recognized emergency medical technicians, provided immediate medical assistance to the individual, but he was declared dead on arrival.”
Previously, it was disclosed that Pretti might have been shot when officers accidentally discharged his firearm.
In the footage captured from the scene, an ICE officer was observed stepping back from the area while holding Pretti’s gun, which then seems to discharge.
This might have frightened the other agents, causing them to fire at Pretti, who was not armed at that moment.
A phenomenon referred to as ‘contagious fire’ indicates that police officers are 11 times more prone to open fire when they hear gunshots, regardless of whether the sounds are accurate or not.
However, a video that was extensively shared onsocial media and verified by USMedia outlets showed that Pretti never pulled out his weapon, and agents shot him just seconds after he was sprayed in the face with a chemical irritant and knocked to the ground.
A furious group assembled following the shooting and shouted vulgarities at federal agents, urging them to return home.
The head of the Minnesota Gun Owners Law Centre, Rob Doar, stated on social media that he believes Pretti’s death resulted from “a mistake committed by an ICE agent.”
‘Following a review of the footage, I think it’s very probable that the first shot was an accidental discharge by the officer in the gray jacket after he took the Sig P320 from Pretti’s holster while leaving the area,’ he stated.
Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara stated that the police believe Mr. Pretti was a ‘lawful gun owner who has a permit to carry’.
He requested composure, not only from the public but also from federal law enforcement officials.
