Situated near the western coast of Scotland, the deserted Gruinard Island carries a somber past.

During World War II, the isolated island was utilized by the British for anthrax-related experiments in 1942, resulting in significant contamination. It has since become known as ‘Anthrax Island’.

The area is only two kilometers in length and one kilometer wide, and was restricted to humans since the 1940s, until 1990 when the Ministry of Defence announced the island was free from the dangerous illness.

A dedicated traveler, Ellie, who documents her experiences onYouTubewhere she is known as EllieMarieTV, was not discouraged by Gruinard Island’s history and made it her goal to visit.

In a videouploaded a year ago, she intends to investigate ‘restricted Google Map areas’ and the journey leads her to Gruinard Island.

Ellie states the land is ‘completely removed from’GoogleMaps and explains that she hopes to go there.

“I want to try and locate a local who’s wild enough to take me to this island, so we can check for ourselves if we can still spot the Anthrax,” she says.

The British individual conversed with multiple residents who revealed their different conspiracy theories about the island.

In the end, Ellie locates a local kayaker named Will, who is willing to paddle with her to the enigmatic island.

Ellie must navigate her kayak through caves and avoid rocks while searching for a secure spot to land and exit.

“Following an hour of kayaking, we had ultimately reached the rear of the island,” she states.

The adventurer acknowledges her fear regarding the journey, yet continues forward in her pursuit to investigate the uncertain site.

“Although I’m terrified at the moment, this could be our sole chance to visit an island completely removed and concealed from the whole world, to check if the wild conspiracy theories about this place are accurate,” Ellie adds.

Located on a rocky shore, Ellie glances around and observes that the place is not especially unusual.

She admits that she “doesn’t see any Anthrax” or “anything unusual.”

“And following the exploration of these forbidden sites, even with their ominous histories, what we ultimately found were some remarkably beautiful, yet eerie experiences,” she concludes.

Back in 2022, Wildfires burning on Gruinard Island could be seen by people on the mainland.

At that moment, the Scottish population was advised to ‘be cautious’ after a wildfire alert was active.

According to the BBC, Kate Gearing and her daughter Nessie were heading back to Aultbea, a small fishing village in the North-West Highlands of Scotland, at 8:30pm last night when they noticed the fire.

Ms. Gearing, 25, mentioned that the massive fire spreading across the island wasdoomsday,” and appeared like “flames of hell.
