Fans of the Senegal national football team initiated an online campaign to assist coach Pape Thiaw in covering a $100,000 penalty imposed by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) following the disputed 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final.

The initiative, launched through social media and fundraising websites, swiftly attracted donations from thousands of individuals seeking to express support for the coach.

In a post shared on Instagram, Thiaw expressed gratitude to Senegalese fans for their kindness but requested that they stop the fundraising campaign under his name.

He mentioned that he was profoundly moved by their assistance, yet encouraged individuals to channel the funds towards more pressing issues and assist those who require it.

The penalty and a five-match ban were among the disciplinary actions imposed by CAF due to Thiaw’s behavior in the final.

Thiaw directed his team to stay on the field late in the game as a form of protest following a penalty given to Morocco, resulting in a brief walk-off.

Amid the disturbance, several Senegalese fans hurled items and tried to access the playing area until law enforcement and security personnel stepped in, allowing the match to continue.

The disciplinary committee determined that Thiaw’s behavior breached principles of fair play and integrity, along with penalties imposed on players and the Senegalese Football Federation.
