Dar es Salaam. The eagerly awaited TPC Open golf competition begins today at the scenic TPC Golf Course in Moshi, gathering top amateur golfers from throughout the nation for one of Tanzania’s most distinguished local tournaments.

Although the primary attention is currently on the amateur tournament, professional golfers initiated their pursuit of victory yesterday at the same location, establishing the stage for a weekend filled with top-tier golf.

The competition signifies a much-anticipated comeback, as it was originally planned for November of last year but was delayed by the Tanzania Golf Union (TGU) because of unforeseen situations.

Recreational golf players competing in the tournament come from various clubs, highlighting the event’s nationwide popularity and the strength of its competition.

Athletes have come from Arusha Gymkhana, Moshi Club, Dar es Salaam Gymkhana, TPDF Lugalo Golf Club, Morogoro Gymkhana, Kilombero Golf Club, Mufindi Golf Club, and the host TPC Golf Club. Organizers expect that the varied group will lead to fierce competition in every category.

The tournament includes a variety of competitive categories aimed at golfers with varying levels of ability. The top awards will consist of the overall gross champion, the overall gross second place finisher, and the overall net champion. Extra prizes will also be given in Division A, Division B, and Division C, with both champions and runners-up acknowledged in every division.

Junior golfers will also take part in their own division, showcasing the organizers’ dedication to developing young talent and ensuring the sport’s continued growth. Senior golfers, on the other hand, will compete in a distinct stroke play category, promoting inclusivity among different age groups.

Before the competition, one of the nation’s well-known female golfers, Vicky Elias, shared her confidence in her training and goals.

She mentioned she is aiming for excellent outcomes in her category, even with tough competition from other skilled golfers. “I have done thorough preparation for this tournament and I am prepared for the challenge,” Vicky stated. “The competition is strong, but my concentration is on delivering my top performance and competing at a high standard.”
