Atletico MadridIncreased efforts have been made to bring Ademola Lookman to the Turkish club Fenerbahce, as they get nearer to finalizing a deal for the Nigerian forward, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The Spanish club attempted to acquire the 28-year-old player last summer but was unable to come to terms with Atalanta.

The main midfield player, Leon Goretzka, stated on Friday that he will not depart from Bayern Munich until the summer, compelling Sporting Director Mateu Alemany to seek other alternatives.

Atletico are currently focusing on securing Davide Frattesi from Inter Milan to strengthen their midfield, although Lookman is still their main target for a signing.

Nevertheless, the race to secure the Nigerian international is intense. According to transfer analyst Fabrizio Romano, Fenerbahce’s agreement is in the final phase, with the Turkish team presenting a deal valued at €40m, including additional clauses.

As reported by the Spanish magazine Marca, Atletico admit that Fenerbahce’s offer is currently greater than theirs, but they will make every effort to bring Lookman to Spain.

The athlete had shown a desire to relocate to Spain in the summer.

According to Diario AS, Fenerbahce’s sports director Devin Ozek is currently in Bergamo working on completing the agreement.

Romano stated on Friday that although Atalanta and Fenerbahce have reached a verbal agreement regarding a €40m deal, they have not yet finalized the payment terms and conditions.

He mentioned that Atletico Madrid have been contacting recently to inquire about the terms of the deal.

Atletico may bring back Goretzka and Lookman during the summer, contingent on the deals Alemany finalizes before February 2.
