Lindsey Vonn, 42 years old and from the United States, known as the “queen of downhill skiing,” sustained a knee injury in a World Cup competition roughly 10 days prior to the Milan Cortina Winter Olympics.

Vonn lost her balance upon landing from a jump during the women’s downhill competition of the 2025-2026 International Ski Federation (FIS) World Cup, which took place in Crans-Montana, Switzerland, on the 30th (local time). While trying to stabilize herself, her body leaned back, leading to her falling and hitting a net near the slope.

Following five minutes of medical attention, Vonn utilized her ski poles to stay steady as she continued down the slope, although she was observed touching her knee several times throughout the descent.

Lindsey Vonn, who was subsequently taken to a hospital via helicopter, had a medical check-up, although the specifics of her injury and the expected recovery time are still unclear. Despite this, Vonn shared on her social media that she plans to compete in the Milan Cortina Winter Olympics, writing, “The dream for the Olympics is not over.” She mentioned, “It’s disappointing that this occurred just a week before the Olympic start,” but also demonstrated confidence by saying, “I have the experience to make a strong return.”

Lindsey Vonn, known as the queen of downhill skiing, earned a bronze medal in the downhill competition at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics before retiring in 2019. Nevertheless, she made a comeback to competitive skiing during the 2024-2025 season. In this season (2025-2026), she showcased her skills by securing two victories, two second-place finishes, and three third-place results in the FIS World Cup. She was set to take part in the downhill, super-G, and team events at the Milan Cortina Olympics. Vonn’s first Olympic event is scheduled for February 8th, giving her roughly 10 days to recover.
