The Nigerian Football Federation has cut Remo Stars’ home ban to five games after appealing the penalties imposed by the Nigeria Premier Football League due to crowd issues during their match against Ikorodu City,Saturday PUNCH reports.

In a statement released on Friday following a disciplinary committee meeting that took place on Tuesday, the federation stated that although multiple financial fines were confirmed, the directive for Remo Stars to host all remaining home games outside of Ikenne had been reconsidered.

The committee determined that Remo Stars did not offer sufficient and efficient security, highlighting that following the game held on January 14, fans of the club assaulted Ikorodu City supporters using hazardous weapons, causing injuries and damaging the visiting team’s bus.

It also decided that items were hurled onto the field, resulting in two interruptions, and that the behavior of the fans had the potential to damage the integrity of the match.

According to these results, the committee imposed a N2m penalty for not offering sufficient and efficient security and an additional N1m fine for throwing items onto the playing field.

An extra N2m penalty was also kept as a compensatory fee for harm done to visiting fans and damage to the Ikorodu City team’s bus.

However, the venue penalty was adjusted. The committee decided, “An order that all remaining home matches of Remo Stars FC for the rest of the 2025/2026 season be held at the Lekan Salami Stadium is now reduced to a five-game suspension effective from the date of the sanction.”

The federation stated, the choices made did not affect the club’s ability to appeal.

The initial sanctions were disclosed by the NPFL on January 22 following events that occurred during the matchday 20 game.

The lowering of the ban has major consequences for Remo Stars’ upcoming matches.

The team has eight home games left this season, with four scheduled to take place at their Ikenne venue.

They had already started implementing the sanction by hosting their matchday 23 game against Kun Khalifat in Ibadan, indicating that four more home matches will continue to take place in Ibadan as per the committee’s ruling.

The upcoming home matches for Remo Stars against Plateau United, Abia Warriors, and Katsina United will take place at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan, while the game against Nasarawa United is set to conclude the five-match suspension around mid-March.

The Sky Blue Stars are next scheduled to travel back to Ikenne for the encounter with Kwara United, then face Shooting Stars in the South West derby, along with Niger Tornadoes, and conclude their matchday 37 with a home game against Bayelsa United.

The team is currently placed 17th in the NPFL standings with 27 points, holding the last spot for relegation following a record of only one win in their past seven games.
