An 18-year-old high school snowboarder, Choi Ga-on from Sehwa Girls’ High School, has been identified as a medal hopeful for the women’s halfpipe competition at the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics, according to Forbes, an American financial publication.

Forbes, on the third, highlighted eight athletes expected to reach the podium in the snowboard halfpipe competition at this year’s Olympics, with Choi Ga-on listed first. Born in 2008, Choi Ga-on, a high school student, will be participating in her debut Olympic Games. In the 2025-2026 season, she secured victories in all three International Ski Federation (FIS) Snowboard World Cup events she took part in, showcasing top-notch performance.

Forbes mentioned about Choi Ga-on, “She will be the most formidable opponent for Chloe Kim from the U.S., who is seeking a historic third straight Olympic gold,” and noted, “If Choi Ga-on claims the gold medal, she will exceed Chloe Kim to become the youngest Olympic snowboard champion.”
