- Demands for the Victorian Government to cancel coronavirus fines
A MelbourneA man has criticized the Victorian Government after he was required to pay a $10,000 penalty or risk arrest for allegedly violating COVID-19 regulations.lockdown rule.
Kyle Hunt, the CEO of the healthcare consulting company HCPA, stated that sheriffs from Victoria arrived at his office last week with an arrest warrant, demanding he settle the fine.
Mr. Hunt stated to the Daily Mail that he had not paid a fine associated with violating the 5km rule during one of Melbourne’s instances.COVID-19 lockdowns.
“I ventured a little beyond the five-kilometer zone during a motorcycle trip. I was stopped by the police at that moment, had a conversation with them, and they informed me that I wasn’t doing anything wrong, allowing me to keep riding,” Mr. Hunt mentioned.
I received a penalty, but the conversation was quite casual.
Mr. Hunt mentioned he didn’t have much of a choice but to pay the fine, joking, “I don’t believe a motorcycle ride warrants jail!”
“It’s not common for sheriffs to come into your workplace about an incident that occurred years ago. It definitely wasn’t planned for the day, but I complied, although I was puzzled as to why this issue was still relevant,” he said.
But everyone is saying that the Covid fines have been revoked, so I’m not sure if it should still be an issue.

He posted a video clip showing the sheriffs arriving at his office, which has now become widely popular online.
It is known that Mr. Hunt was initially fined $5,000 for violating the 5km regulation; nevertheless, additional charges and interest have increased the total amount to nearly $10,000.
The post has garnered hundreds of comments, with many people blasting the state government as ‘a joke’ and accusing it of wanting to ‘revenue raise’ off the back of people with money.
‘This is revenue raising because they know you have money. This government is a joke,’ one person said.
Another addition: “Five years later… you can’t be serious.”
Another said: ‘Omg I thought these were all retracted? This is crazy. Why doesn’t our government focus on the high crime rate instead of trying to fine and catch innocent people?’
Several people also began to doubt if the fines remained legally binding following widespread reports of New South Wales’ choice to cancel and refund over 23,000 penalties issued throughout the pandemic.
The Queensland Government has also written off as much as $4 million in penalties related to Covid-19.

Unfortunately for Mr. Hunt, his offense occurred in Victoria, where those fines remain applicable.
As per Victoria’s Legal Aid website, the state government “implemented emergency measures to assist in handling the coronavirus outbreak.”
Those pandemic directives needed to be obeyed, just like laws.
Don’t overlook your fine. If you neglect your fine, you might end up paying a larger amount. If you continue to disregard fines, there could be additional severe consequences.
Mr. Hunt stated that it’s understandable that many people are puzzled about the enforcement action, especially since Australians in other states had their fines canceled and even received refunds.
“The regulations kept changing throughout the lockdowns, enforcement was inconsistent, and even years later, individuals are still facing consequences for actions taken during a highly stressful and unpredictable period,” he stated.
It seems somewhat removed from our current situation.
If other states are exempting Covid penalties, I believe it’s fair for Victoria to start discussing it. I expect many people would appreciate clear guidance, particularly those who followed the rules and paid thinking they had no choice.
Victorian officials are still pursuing nearly 20,000 outstanding Covid-related fines, amounting to as much as $30 million.
