Leader of the People Power Party, Jang Dong-hyeok, stated during a session in the National Assembly on the 4th, “I once again call for a summit with President Lee Jae Myung.” Additionally, he suggested establishing a parliamentary ‘Republic of Korea Renovation Task Force (TF)’ to address matters concerning population reduction and regional disappearance.
Jang mentioned during his speech, representing the negotiation group on the same day, “This is the ideal moment for the Lee Jae Myung administration,” while making this request.
He stated, “I do not want the Lee Jae Myung administration to fail. I hope this will serve as a chance to educate the public on the challenges faced by citizens’ lives and the economy, and to explore solutions collectively, instead of getting involved in political conflicts.”
He stated, “We will share the concerns of the public concerning pressing economic matters like soaring inflation and currency exchange rates, housing challenges in the capital area, and trade difficulties with the U.S., while outlining our party’s proposed solutions. We also aim to address political topics, including the investigation into a special prosecutor, in a transparent and sincere manner.”
On the importance of the summit meeting, Jang stated, “Just the act of the president and the head of the main opposition party meeting to talk about current matters will significantly ease public concerns. I think this was the motivation behind President Lee’s proposal for eight summit meetings while he was in the opposition.”
He suggested to the Democratic Party of Korea that they work together to develop logical solutions for the current debates regarding the administrative integration of metropolitan governments. Jang stated, “Without transformative population and regional policies, there is no way to avoid the population decline or regional disappearance. The ruling and opposition parties must collaborate, engage experts from various fields, and collectively discover a sustainable route for the Republic of Korea.”
He added, “Let’s bring the topic of administrative integration, which has become more active before the local elections, to the discussion table from the viewpoint of a ‘regional revolution.’ My party and I have already suggested a special law to start the merging of Daejeon and South Chungcheong Province and to act as a pioneering example for administrative integration.”
However, concerning the second comprehensive special counsel initiated by the ruling party, he stated, “There are other areas where a special counsel is required.” He suggested establishing a special counsel to investigate the abandonment of the Daejang-dong appeal, another special counsel to examine the Democratic Party of Korea-Unification Church scandal, and a third special counsel to look into bribery allegations related to Democratic Party nominations.
In this context, Jang commented, “President Lee and the Democratic Party are directing all their energy towards dismantling the judiciary. The National Assembly has turned into a center of legislative tyranny designed to remove political opponents and suppress the opposition party.”
Concerning the ruling party’s initiative to create a special tribunal for insurrection, he stated, “A dictatorship is not finalized through weapons and blades but through legislation. The Lee Jae Myung administration is treading the same route as the Nazi regime’s special courts.” He called upon, “President Lee and the Democratic Party to immediately revoke the second special prosecutor and the special tribunal for insurrection, and to stop efforts to undermine the prosecution.”
He also condemned the government’s economic strategies, saying, “President Lee’s statement that ‘there is no market that can overcome the government’ highlights the administration’s perspective on the market economy. They are advocating for expansionary fiscal measures that reject market fundamentals and move toward Lee Jae Myung’s concept of a basic society.”
