A Bayern Munich insider, Christian Falk, has stated that Arsenal “made an offer” to the Bundesliga club in January and has shared encouraging news for the Gunners in their pursuit of one of their key summer targets.
Arsenal chose not to strengthen their squad in January while aiming for the quadruple, but were connected with last-minute bids for midfielders after Mikel Merino’s long-term injury.
Stories spread of a final attempt to bring Newcastle’s Sandro Tonali to the team., although his agent later stated there was no truth to the claims, and it was also reported that Arsenal showed interest in Bayern player Leon Goretzka, who recently announced he will be leaving the German club when his contract expires in the summer.

Falk has now revealed in his Bayern Insider columnThat Arsenal actually ‘made an offer’ for Goretzka, who was ‘very keen’ on the transfer, but chose to stick with his obligations at Bayern.
‘It is indeed true: Arsenal submitted a bid for Leon Goretzka just before the transfer window closed,’ Falk wrote.
This presented a fascinating choice for the German, yet he had already made up his mind not to relocate during the winter. When Atletico Madrid showed interest, he issued an official statement on his Instagram account—just like Bayern Munich did. Goretzka isn’t one to renege on his promise at the last moment—especially not for Arsenal!
I believe he has a solid concept for the Premier League. He feels his approach to the game is well-suited for the English top division.
There is also the interest from Atletico Madrid, so there are many possibilities for the future. Italy is another opportunity, with attention from Juventus, Milan, and Napoli.
Arcade, naturally, would have been intriguing for the midfielder, but the proposal arrived too late on transfer deadline day, leaving no one sufficient time to respond. What a shame for Arsenal and Goretzka!

Falk also provided Arsenal with a boost in their pursuit of former Manchester City player Julian Alvarez, who is reportedly eager to leave Atletico Madrid, by stating that Bayern – also widely expected to be involved in the deal – are “not going to push for” his acquisition.
“He’s an intriguing player, but when I talked to some individuals from Bayern, they mentioned they don’t need these rumors right now – they’re aiming for a calm transfer window,” Falk added.
So they aren’t going to target him right now. They’d prefer to have a player like him on their team, but with a contract lasting until 2030, it’s not possible.
They made an attempt to bring him in 2023, around the time Harry Kane joined; they were considering another forward and whether having the English player alone would be sufficient. However, at this point, it’s not a transfer they are planning to pursue.
