Former Liverpool winger Jordon Ibe was penalized following his admission of using a fake prescription to acquire sleeping pills from a pharmacy.

A 30-year-old player who featured in 41 matches for Liverpool during his time there, followed by stints at Derby County,BirminghamThe city and AFC Bournemouth encountered legal action after he attempted to acquire the sleep medication Zolpidem using a fake prescription.

He attended Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court on Thursday to confess to having an item intended for fraudulent purposes.

Magistrates required Ibe to settle a £230 penalty within the coming month, along with £85 in expenses and a £72 charge for the victim.

The court was informed that he utilized the document at the Hornsey Road pharmacy on May 24, 2024, and returned four days later to collect additional quantities of the same medicine.

On the second visit, Ibe’s counterfeit prescription was confiscated by a cautious pharmacy employee.

Ibe, who was signed by Bournemouth from Liverpool in 2016 for a club-record fee of £15 million, did not attend court for his initial appearance in January.

His lawyer, Claire Reid, stated that Ibe, who signed with the Bulgarian first division team Lokomotiv Sofia last year, had been “completely unaware” of the case since the charge was sent via letter to his family home in Southwark, south London, just after he departed the UK to join his new club.

A judge subsequently directed him to appear in court to confront the accusation on Thursday.

In recent years, Ibe has been participating in non-league football and managed to join the Bulgarian capital in November 2025.

Lokomotiv is the 11th unique team he has been part of during his career, and the third one this year.

He once performed in front of full crowds at Anfield and was being considered for an England selection, but now he is joining a team that draws fewer than 1,000 spectators per match.

It demonstrates Ibe’s dedication to restarting his career following his 2021 acknowledgment that he had battled depression for four years.

In 2020, Ibe was found guilty and prohibited from driving following an incident where he crashed his Bentley into a coffee shop, resulting in thousands of pounds in damages, and then left the scene.

Following the incident at The Pantry on Plaistow Lane in Bromley, southeast London, just before 5am on July 30, 2018, Ibe pleaded guilty to careless driving and was convicted of not stopping after an accident.

He subsequently joined Derby and released a statement indicating he was receiving treatment to enhance his mental well-being.

“I wish to apologize to all my fans across the globe,” Ibe wrote on Instagram.

I’ve found myself in a dark place, because of struggling with depression.

It’s not a plan for the media or to have my name on your lips, I simply find things difficult honestly.

I’m grateful for all the love and messages received from everyone. It’s been a tough time overall because of the pandemic.

Ibe made his debut for Wycombe in October 2011 at the age of 15 and 311 days, becoming their youngest-ever Football League player and scorer. He later moved to Liverpool in December 2011.

He was a forward with great promise, making his Liverpool debut at 15, scoring on his first appearance at the same age, and becoming a consistent player for the Reds from 2014 to 2016.

Ibe spent more than four and a half years at Anfield, joining the England under-21 team during that time.

Raheem Sterling served as his role model, and Steven Gerrard advised England’s manager Roy Hodgson to pay attention to him.

“He is definitely a player we really appreciate and one we are closely watching. It’s not out of the question that he might be selected for one of the upcoming matches,” Hodgson mentioned in 2015, although the senior cap never materialized.

In the same year, images surfaced, thought to have been captured in 2014, showing Ibe and Sterling holding a shisha pipe at a shisha lounge in London.

Dressed informally, the two are sitting on a couch in front of a table that has shisha pipes, cans of sparkling Fanta orange, and a portable music speaker.

Move forward to the present day, Ibe has signed a two-year contract with Lokomotiv and is eager to make his mark following a period where he has had difficulty establishing a permanent club.

“Following some challenging seasons, Jordon is prepared to restart his career, and we all are confident that this will take place at Lokomotiv,” stated the club.

He has only featured for 11 minutes in professional football – with Derby County and Ebbsfleet United – since his agreement with Bournemouth ended in 2020.

It came as a bit of a shock when Liverpool released him in 2016, considering he was once seen as a top young talent. He scored four goals and provided seven assists in 58 games with the club.

He was brought in by the Cherries with great hopes, but he failed to consistently perform at the level people believed he could achieve, netting five goals and providing nine assists in 92 matches.

Following his departure from the South Coast club, he has played for Derby, Adanaspor in Turkey, Ebbsfleet, Hayes & Yeading, and Sittingbourne.

He shared with The Guardian his goals earlier this year: “Keep playing football; achieve the standards I am capable of; make that final effort.”

I wouldn’t claim I regret what has occurred. It has improved me. Football is not the primary achievement in my life.

I have a more profound purpose; being a father; becoming an exceptional human being; being a brother; being a son. Things that hold greater significance in life.
